Goutte d'Or—the "drop of gold"—is named for the distinctive golden flint visible in its soil, and you can taste that mineral richness in every sip. As the first premier cru vineyard encountered when leaving Meursault toward Puligny, it sits closest to the village and enjoys a cooler east-northeast exposure that proves advantageous in warm vintages. The wine opens with lime flower and nut aromas, then reveals superior tension and poise on the palate, the flint-rich terroir creating a distinctive minerality that sets it apart. "The dense, rich Gouttes d'Or is initially somewhat closed, but with time, ripe, buttery fruit aromas with hints of apple, apricot and honey open on the palate with hints of hazelnut and smoke. The texture is lush and powerful, but it is not yet showing its full potential. The grapes are from a 0.39-hectare parcel replanted with a combination of massale selection and clones in the '90s. The grapes are gently pressed and fermented in cask before ageing over two winters."
