Porusots derives its name from an old word for stony ground, and this expansive premier cru (divided into Dessus, Le Porusot, and Dessous sections) lives up to that character. This midslope, southwest-facing site sits on deep clay-limestone foundations studded with stones that create a wine of remarkable layering and structure. Unlike the racy mineral tension of Genevrières or the opulent creaminess of Charmes, Porusots occupies an intermediate terrain: lavish and deeply structured, with a richness that unfolds over time. It's a wine that demonstrates the producer's complete range of expression within a single appellation.

"Firm reduction is all that can be discerned on the nose today. More interesting are the tension-filled and tautly muscular, if not super-dense, medium weight flavors that culminate in a firmly mineral-driven, moderately austere, linear and impressively persistent finale. As is virtually always the case, this serious effort will need extended cellaring to realize its full potential"

"The 2022 Meursault Les Porusots 1er Cru has a sophisticated bouquet with crushed limestone infusing citrus fruit mixed with yellow flowers and a little undergrowth. The palate is well-balanced with a fine bead of acidity. This feels harmonious, lovely, poised and pure, with hints of tropical fruit decorating yet not defining the finish. Superb." —Neal Martin

"More tensile than the Goutte d'Or, the 2022 Meursault 1er Cru Porusots exhibits notes of citrus oil, white flowers, crisp green apple and freshly baked bread, followed by a medium to full-bodied, satiny and tensile palate with good cut and persistence." —William Kelley

"Cask sample. Mid lemon. Citrus, spice, apple. Richness on the palate with ripe apple, citrus and all dressed up with a dusting of allspice, driven on by juicy, crystalline acidity."

"The 2022 Porusots seemed oddly fresher and more substantial when tasted from cask. The aromas spanned citrus, apple, and peach; the texture was dense and luxurious yet enlivened by crisp acidity. The particular structure of the wine must be due to both the clay in the soil and the slight turn to the northeast of this lieu-dit. Lafon farms nearly a hectare in metayage from René Manuel, which makes him the largest proprietor here."

More about Domaine des Comtes Lafon

A Meursault institution that makes white Burgundy the way it should taste: rich but not heavy, layered but not overwrought. These Chardonnays from the Côte de Beaune sit at the intersection of power and elegance, especially the prized Clos de la Baronne, where the limestone terroir speaks clearly. The house has built its reputation on consistency and refinement—wines that age gracefully and reward patience. If you want to understand what limestone and lees aging can do in the hands of masters, this is where to start.
