Chinon is the Loire Valley's great red wine appellation, where Cabernet Franc reaches an expression quite unlike anywhere else in the world. The cool climate and tuffeau limestone soils produce wines with bright acidity, crunchy red fruit, and the distinctive graphite-and-herb character that defines Loire Cabernet Franc. "Les Pucelles" (the maidens) is a vineyard-designated bottling from Domaine des Frères, showcasing how site-specific these wines can be. The 2021 vintage was challenging throughout France, but the Loire fared better than most, and cooler years often produce particularly elegant, aromatic Chinon. This is a wine for the table—its freshness and moderate alcohol make it ideal alongside charcuterie, roasted poultry, or mushroom dishes. Serve slightly cool to appreciate its aromatic complexity.

Two brothers who ditched steady careers to farm 27 acres of ancient vines near Chinon—Henri and Valentin grew up in the shadow of the Loire and both became engineers before deciding that wine mattered more. They respect the old vineyard blocks (35–50 years old) and the limestone terroir, making Loire reds that taste like the soil itself—tangy, mineral, built for food rather than fawning over ratings. Organic farmers making wines that actually taste interesting, not just technically correct.
