Faiveley's flagship NSG holding, in a warm and balanced vintage. Les Saint-Georges sits at the southern end of the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation and has long been considered Grand Cru-quality in everything but title — its formal INAO promotion bid has been working its way through the system for roughly a decade. Faiveley, founded in 1825 in NSG and now under seventh-generation Erwan Faiveley with winemaker Jérôme Flous, owns a tiny old-vine slice raised in about 50% new oak. 2020 was a warm but balanced Burgundy vintage that delivered ripe fruit alongside structural backbone — concentration without heaviness. This is a young, ageworthy, serious wine: decant aggressively now or, better, tuck it away for a decade-plus to let the architecture soften and the savory complexity emerge.

"This is aromatically actually quite similar to the Cazetiers if perhaps just a bit fresher still. The sleeker if slightly less concentrated and powerful flavors also brim with minerality and dry extract that does a fine job of buffering the tautly muscular, more austere and more structured finale. This too is most impressive." —Allen Meadows

"The 2020 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Saint-Georges 1er Cru has a comparatively "old school" bouquet: sous-bois infused red fruit, hints of black tea and bay leaf. It presents fine delineation; however, returning after ten minutes, it loses some vigor and complexity. The palate is medium-bodied with a precise entry. Quite creamy in texture, there is a new oak veneer, but the fruit will assimilate that. It's linear with a dash of black pepper on the finish. Promising. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting." —Neal Martin

"Offering up aromas of dark berries, red plums, sweet spices and a deft framing of new oak, the 2020 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Saint-Georges is medium to full-bodied, layered and complete, with a deep core of fruit, bright acids and powdery structuring tannins. This is a seamless, elegant wine that shows considerable promise." —William Kelley

"Faiveley has a small parcel in Les St-Georges that it supplements with purchased fruit that it both farms and picks. Faiveley finds the terroir to be a 'hot place, always very ripe', although in 2020 it kept the alcohol to 13.5%. The wine has a cassis and black plum fruit, with elements of earth and fresh saddle leather. With its appealingly dark fruit, it strikes me as typical of Nuits, an impression reinforced by the rich tannic structure. A lovely wine. Drinking Window 2025 - 2040."
