Pinot Noir from the high country above the Côte de Nuits, by a top Chambolle hand. Domaine Felettig — now in its second generation under Gilbert and Christine Felettig — sources this Hautes-Côtes de Nuits from a small plot called Les Mouchettes in the village of Villers-la-Faye, on the plateau above the Côte de Nuits between Beaune and Nuits-Saint-Georges. Cooler elevation means later ripening, fresher acidity, and a lighter footprint than the famous slopes — but Felettig's Chambolle restraint translates here too. Whole-cluster portion in vinification, classical élevage. Cherry-and-spice Burgundy at a price that lets you actually drink it on a Tuesday. The 2023s are open and friendly out of the gate.

More about Felettig

Based in Chambolle Musigny, Domaine Felettig owns 30 acres spread over 130 tiny parcels spread over the Cote de Nuits. Christine Felettig and her brother Gilbert farm the domaine started by their father in the 1970's. He was a vineyard worker and purchased minuscule bits of the vineyards where he toiled. The wines were honest but rustic.

Christine and Gilbert took over and by 2010 the wines were much better. They hired people, bought a sorting table, stainless steel tanks and installed temperature control in the winery. Most importantly the farming was improved. All organic, no herbicides or pesticides. The fruit is carefully sorted, in the vineyard and at the winery. Low extraction, 30% new wood, some parcels are destemmed, some use 30-40 % whole cluster. Fermentation with indigenous yeasts.
