Cote du Py is Morgon's grand cru in all but name, a blue volcanic hill that gives Gamay unusual depth and ageworthiness, and the Savoye family has farmed it since the 1850s. This magnum of the 2005 is a back-vintage from a sturdy, structured year, drinking in mature territory now. Two decades have softened the wine's once-firm frame into something gentle and savory, with the dark cherry fruit edging toward dried fruit, earth, and forest floor. Large format means it has aged slowly and gracefully. Drink now. Provenance from a private cellar.
