From a Barolo legend, his signature cru, and a warm, generous vintage. Domenico Clerico helped redefine modern Barolo, and his Ginestra Ciabot Mentin comes from the great Ginestra hillside in Monforte d'Alba, vines planted in 1978 at 390 to 420 meters. The 1997 is now a mature back-vintage from a celebrated, ripe year, showing the opulent fruit of the vintage softened by time into dried cherry, tar, truffle, and leather. Powerful but resolved, ready to drink. Provenance from a private cellar.

Since 1976, Domenico Clerico has been pulling Barolo from the steep slopes around Monforte d'Alba in Piedmont. His four legendary crus—Ginestra, Bussia, Pajana, Mosconi—sit on limestone soils that demand time and respect. At 21 hectares producing 110,000 bottles yearly, Clerico remains one of Piedmont's most respected voices.
