Duroche is a rising star in Gevrey, a domaine making serious waves with Grand Cru-quality fruit from vines planted in 1920 on crinoidal limestone and clay soil. The 2013 brings an expressive bouquet of red and black fruit, hints of undergrowth and wet limestone that evolve in the glass. Powerful yet ethereal, the palate is mineral and complex, showing the depth and structure necessary for extended aging. Pinot Noir from one of Burgundy's most prestigious sites, interpreted by a talented producer hitting their stride.

Antonio Galloni

"The 2013 Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru has an open-knit bouquet, though contrasting the two side-by-side, it does not quite possess the precision of the previous vintage. There's a touch of smoke, tertiary in style. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, tart red fruit and saline with just a slightly bitter edge towards the finish. It is nicely structured and doesn't quite match the 2012, yet it is commendable for the growing season. Tasted at the Clos de Bèze vertical at La Cobotte." —Neal Martin

More about Duroche

Gilles Duroché and his son Pierre run eight hectares of Gevrey-Chambertin, spanning village, premier cru, and grand cru levels across the appellation's finest sites. Hand-harvested, minimal oak—wines made to let the grapes reveal their purest form. Pierre is the fifth generation to work the vines here, taking over from his father in 2007. Fourth and fifth generation Burgundy, made with the kind of attention to detail that separates the serious from the pretenders.
