Envinate are among the most beloved natural-wine producers in the world, four wine-school friends devoted to fully alive, terroir-driven wines from overlooked corners of Spain. Taganan comes from the wild, steep terraces of Tenerife's northern coast, and Parcela Margalagua is one of its single-plot bottlings: ancient ungrafted vines of obscure Canary grapes clinging to volcanic slopes high above the Atlantic. Made with whole clusters, wild yeast, and a barely-there hand, it's specific, energetic, and savory, with crunchy fruit and a deep, smoky volcanic minerality unique to this parcel. A thrilling expression of one of Europe's most dramatic vineyard sites. Wine, first and foremost, is about pleasure.

"The 2024 Táganan Parcela Margalagua starts quite closed and is subtler. They have fine-tuned the work in the vineyard and with the lees, and the wines have gained in precision and complexity. 2024 is a lighter vintage than 2023, and the wine has an ethereal character that I like very much. This comes from red basalt soils with more iron but with a sandy texture that gives finesse, and it comes from ancient vines, a field blend with mostly Negramoll and Listán Negro and 10% Listán Blanco. In 2024, they fermented it with 100% full clusters and no temperature control in concrete with around 25 to 28 days of maceration, and the wine matured in neutral 228-liter barrels for nine months without racking or sulfur, during which time it went through malolactic fermentation. It opens up to elegant floral aromas and the textbook descriptors (dry rose petals, black peppercorns and wet pumice stone) in a subtle and balanced way. 1,800 bottles were filled in July 2025." —Luis Gutiérrez

More about Envinate

Just a couple of years ago the wines of Envinate were very, very off the radar. Like everything in the world of delicious, naturally made wines, that has changed! Now we eagerly anticipate the next release, get just a case or less of each cuvée, and then watch them disappear in the blink of an eye.

For those unfamiliar, the group of four friends behind the project have nailed a locals' perspective on growing areas that the world is just coming to appreciate. Between Ribeira Sacra and the Canary Islands, they bottle clear expressions of the vineyards with which they work. Having started Envinate as a consultancy while in enology school, the friends set out to enrich the communities within these historically neglected areas. By splitting up and living in each of these regions, they have been able to foster relationships with older generations of growers and farmers allowing them to identify the best vineyard sites with a collective understanding beyond their experience.

With a strong technical education, The Four craft wines of precision and clarity. Never manipulated, never doctored, and a lack of chemicals in the vineyard, these wines are liquid art, a purists expression of terrior. They honor not only the region from which they come, but also the local stewards who have cared for these vineyards, often for generations.
