You almost never see Pinot Meunier standing on its own—it usually plays a supporting role in Champagne. But when David Lett planted Oregon's first Pinot vines in the 1960s, Meunier came along too, and Eyrie is one of the very few American producers who bottle it as a still red. This is a tiny-production curiosity that turns out to be genuinely delicious: light, fragrant, and full of crunchy red fruit. Farmed organically, aged in mostly neutral oak, and bottled unfined and unfiltered, it's the featherweight charmer of the Eyrie lineup. For the varietal hunter, this one's a trophy that also happens to be a joy to drink.

Robert Parker

91 points

"The 2017 Pinot Meunier offers bright red and black berry fruit on the nose with pleasantly rustic accents of leather, dusty earth and dried herbs. The palate is light-bodied, soft and juicy with earth-laced fruits and a bright, spicy finish. Yum!" —Erin Brooks

Wine Enthusiast

91 points

"Rarely bottled as a stand-alone varietal, this grape is generally perceived as the sturdy relative of more elegant Pinot Noir. Here it's surprisingly light in color and flavor, with a strong component of tack room leather. The raspberry fruit is bright and fresh, but the surrounding barnyard flavors tend to overtake it. Drink this over the next couple of years." —Paul Gregutt

More about Eyrie

David Lett planted the first Pinot Noir vines in Oregon's Willamette Valley in 1965 and released the first vintage in 1970. He also pioneered Pinot Gris in America. His 1975 Reserve placed second at the 1979 Wine Olympics, losing by a hair to a 1959 Burgundy. David's vision transformed Oregon from a wild frontier into a world-class Pinot region.
