A methuselah holding the equivalent of eight bottles of pure zero-dosage Meunier, which is about as festive as grower Champagne gets. Les Vignes de Mon Village comes from forty-year-old vines in Cuisles, with a small share from neighboring Chatillon-sur-Marne, on the green clay, sand and limestone that give these wines their salty lift. Half the blend is the most recent harvest and half a perpetual reserve reaching back to 2014; it ferments and ages in stainless steel, goes through malolactic, spends roughly eighteen months on the lees and is disgorged with no dosage whatsoever. The name honors Jean-Marc Mousse, mayor of Cuisles for twenty-five years, who championed the village's Meunier when few others would. Six liters ages at a glacial pace, so there is no rush, though a bottle this size tends to create its own occasion.

Antonio Galloni

"The NV Brut Nature Les Vignes de Mon Village is laced with dried pear, chamomile, cinnamon, dried flowers and apricot. This mid-weight Meunier is deceptive. Brisk floral overtones pull it all together on the persistent, translucent finish. Les Vignes de Mon Village is 100% Meunier from Cuisles, equal parts 2023 and a perpetual reserve from 2022 through 2014. Zero dosage."

"Disgorged in November 2024 without dosage, the latest release of Moussé’s NV Blanc de Noirs Les Vignes de Mon Village—despite its zero-dosage style—presents a more demonstrative profile, owing to its four grams of residual sugar. Comprising a perpetual cuvée that blends vintages from 2014 to 2022—with 50% from 2022—it opens with expressive aromas of pear, peach and tangerine zest. On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied, ample and giving, with ripe yet racy acidity and a long, elegantly phenolic finish. As always, it is crafted entirely from Pinot Meunier sourced from Cuisles." —Kristaps Karklins

"Crisp and focused, with a lacy mousse, this refreshing Champagne shows good balance and an appealing range of ripe white cherry and black plum, pink grapefruit peel, blanched almond and chalky minerality. Pinot Meunier."

Champagne

Champagne boasts some of the world’s greatest luxury brands with Krug, Cristal and, of course, Dom Perignon. But it’s also home to hundreds of small dynamic producers—farmers who grow their own grapes (often organically) and make (often with natural methods) tiny amounts of pure and absolutely delicious wine that reflect the individual personalities of their villages and terroirs. Toast with these wines, for sure. But also treat them like the great wines they are: taste, drink, explore!
