Felsina's classic Chianti Classico Riserva, from a 2011 that ran warm and ripe, now showing the rounder, more generous side of mature Sangiovese. The estate sits in Castelnuovo Berardenga at the southern edge of Chianti Classico, working an amphitheater-shaped vineyard whose limestone-and-slate soils give these wines their savory depth and mineral backbone. The Riserva spends extra time aging before release and rewards more in the cellar; this bottle has done that waiting for you. A dozen years on, expect softened tannins and a leather-and-tobacco character layered over the fruit. Honest, terroir-driven Tuscany at a fair price.

Fèlsina was founded in 1966 when Domenico Poggiali acquired the estate during Tuscany's wine revolution. Nearly 600 hectares with ninety-five planted to vines, Felsina is best known for their sleek, aromatic Super Tuscan Fontallaro and the spicy, intense Rancia Riserva—wines that prove Sangiovese is anything but one-note.
