Antonio Galloni

"The NV Extra Brut Rosé de Saignée Blanc de Rose is a bit of a quirky wine, but one that deserves attention. Deceptively medium in body, this vinous Champagne flows with layers of rose petals, flowers and intensely perfumed candied cherries. The nuanced finish lends a further air of intrigue. The Rosé de Saignée Blanc de Rose is 58% Chardonnay, 42% Pinot Noir, all 2008 juice, that is co-macerated. It is one of the most eccentric wines I tasted this, but I loved it." —Antonio Galloni

Robert Parker

"Geoffroy was looking for a more ethereal expression of rosé than that delivered by his emblematic Rosé de Saignée, so he produced the NV Rosé de Saignée Blanc de Rosé Extra Brut with co-maceration Chardonnay fruit along with Pinot Noir. The latest release, derived from the 2014 vintage and disgorged in June 2022 with one gram per liter dosage, is a pretty, medium to full-bodied Champagne evocative of toasted nuts, pear, rose petals and dried flowers. Ample, pillow and precise, it concludes with a chalky finish." —William Kelley

More about

Fourteen hectares in the Vallée de la Marne stretching back to the 1600s. Roger Geoffroy made the first bottles in the 1950s, his son René built it up, Jean-Baptiste took it into the modern era (viticultural school, meticulous work), and his wife Karine joined the project. A 19th-century property in Aÿ, family legacy done right.

Champagne

Champagne boasts some of the world’s greatest luxury brands with Krug, Cristal and, of course, Dom Perignon. But it’s also home to hundreds of small dynamic producers—farmers who grow their own grapes (often organically) and make (often with natural methods) tiny amounts of pure and absolutely delicious wine that reflect the individual personalities of their villages and terroirs. Toast with these wines, for sure. But also treat them like the great wines they are: taste, drink, explore!
