Old-vine Morgon from Guy Breton, one of the famous "Gang of Four" growers Kermit Lynch championed for reviving natural, traditional Beaujolais. Breton and his peers looked back to pre-industrial methods, native yeasts, minimal sulfur, to make Gamay that vibrates with life and transparency. This Vieilles Vignes draws on Morgon's granite-rich soils and old vines, the combination that gives these wines their depth and that uncanny ability to gain elegance with age. The 2014 was a fresh, classic Beaujolais vintage, and at roughly a decade old this is drinking in a lovely mature window. Beaujolais that rivals far pricier reds, and proof old Gamay is worth cellaring.

Antonio Galloni

"Vivid ruby. Urgent aromas of fresh dark berries, licorice and incense are accompanied by a suggestion of smoked meat in the background. Sappy and broad on entry, then more taut in the midpalate, offering concentrated boysenberry, bitter cherry and violet pastille flavors and a hint of spicecake. A vibrant mineral flourish adds lift and cut to the finish, which lingers with excellent floral-tinged persistence." —Josh Raynolds

More about Guy Breton

Guy Breton, one of Kermit Lynch's legendary 'Gang of Four,' took over his family domaine in 1986 and never looked back. Striving to make wines he loves to drink—aromatic, low-alcohol reds bottled unfiltered with minimal sulfur—he's proved that Beaujolais could be serious and simple at once. His Beaujolais-Villages 'Marylou' is lush fruit and refreshing minerality in a glass.
