Henri Boillot is a famous Meursault hand who makes whites with a deft, low-intervention touch, and Clos de la Mouchere is his crown jewel: a Premier Cru monopole in Puligny-Montrachet, meaning he owns the whole walled vineyard outright. (It's the Puligny side of the Les Perrieres lieu-dit.) That sole ownership lets him farm and pick exactly to his standard, and the wine shows it, all precision and tension rather than weight, with notable but well-integrated new oak. The 2015 was a ripe, generous vintage that gives this Chardonnay extra richness while keeping its mineral spine. A serious white Burgundy that rewards a few years or a good decant.

Antonio Galloni

92 points

"The 2015 Puligny-Montrachet Clos de la Mouchère 1er Cru is showing quite noticeable reduction on the nose, although there seems to be sufficient fruit underneath. The palate is well balanced with a fine line of acidity, and quite reduced like the nose, but it conveys a sense of energy, unlike the Les Perrières from François Carillon tasted alongside. There is a pleasing saltiness and slight nuttiness on the finish that bodes well for the future. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting." —Neal Martin

Robert Parker

"The 2015 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Mouchère, Boillot's emblematic cuvée, is one of the highlights of the range in 2015, opening in the glass with notes of struck flint, white peach, nutmeg and crushed chalk. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, powerful and intense, with great energy and tension at the core, its long finish concluding with chalky grip. More vertical than the expansive Pucelles, this is the most tensile premier cru in the cellar in 2015." —William Kelley

More about Henri Boillot

Fifth generation on his family's Burgundy estate—Henri Boillot is a 'star winemaker' whose white wines rank among Burgundy's most extensive and remarkable. Based in Meursault with 19 hectares spread across the Côte de Beaune's finest appellations, he crafts whites that are straightforward, taut, precise, pure, and elegant. His monopoly, Puligny-Montrachet Clos de la Mouchère, is his flagship.
