A village Volnay that hugely over-performs, from a famous Meursault producer who treats his reds with a white-winemaker's light touch. Henri Boillot blends several premier-cru parcels into this bottling and works at ultra-low yields, often as little as 20 hl/ha, so there's premier-cru depth under the village label. 2009 was a ripe, generous Burgundy vintage, and well over a decade on this wine sits in a lovely mature window. Expect earthy, middle-weight Volnay with fine-grained tannins and gentle florals. No waiting required; the cellaring has been done for you.

Antonio Galloni

90 points

"Deep medium ruby. Subdued, deep aromas of black raspberry and chocolate. Concentrated and vibrant if a bit less pliant than the Beaune Clos du Roi. But this has superb structure for village wine and lovely inner-mouth aromatic lift to its black cherry, violet, game and leather flavors. Finishes with complex, suave tannins. This includes juice from four premier crus, notes Boillot." —Stephen Tanzer

More about Henri Boillot

Fifth generation on his family's Burgundy estate—Henri Boillot is a 'star winemaker' whose white wines rank among Burgundy's most extensive and remarkable. Based in Meursault with 19 hectares spread across the Côte de Beaune's finest appellations, he crafts whites that are straightforward, taut, precise, pure, and elegant. His monopoly, Puligny-Montrachet Clos de la Mouchère, is his flagship.
