Angela Fronti works Sangiovese like a painter: the Vigna Cavarchione is the darkest and densest of her single-vineyard bottlings, a wine celebrated for its refusal to compromise. From southeast-facing rocky Galestro soil at 430 meters in Gaiole, every vine speaks terroir—mineral, structured, uncompromising. Organic since 2016 and aged only in Slavonian oak (no oak vanity here), this is Chianti Classico as it should taste: serious, site-specific, and built to last. A wine for people who know what they want.

Antonio Galloni

96 points

"The 2018 Chianti Classico Vigna Cavarchione opens beautifully in the glass, showing myriad layers of dimension and volume. Black cherry, plum, spice, menthol, licorice, spice and a whole range of balsamic inflections saturate the palate. Time in the glass brings out the wine's natural richness and body. The 2018 is a stunning wine. That's all there is to it." —Antonio Galloni

Decanter

94 points

"Though firmly rooted in the township of Radda, Istine’s Angela Fronti slips into the neighbouring commune of Gaiole to craft this single-vineyard bottling. At 430 metres on rocky Galestro soil, the six-hectare site is planted entirely to Sangiovese. It exudes aromas of fennel, mint, tarragon and wild cherry, with blood orange and crushed stones on the palate. Though midweight, it has an extra layer of flesh compared to the classic annata. Firm, chalky tannins expand across the palate giving an assertive grip, with a slightly salty finish." —Michaela Morris

Wine Spectator

94 points

"Round and generous in texture, this red features pure cherry, blackberry, plum and iron flavors. Smooth and harmonious, this is approachable now and why not—the fresh fruit is so compelling."

Kerin O'Keefe

93 points

"Aromas of forest floor, blue flower, leather and pipe tobacco shape the nose. The firm palate is youthfully austere, featuring Marasca cherry, orange zest, licorice and botanical herb framed in tightly knit, close-grained tannins that grip the finish. Vibrant acidity provides balance. Needs time. Drink 2025–2033." —Kerin O'Keefe

More about Istine

Angela Fronti, enologist and daughter of a legendary Tuscan vineyard-management family, launched Istine in 2009 to bottle their own fruit. Today, 20 hectares of scattered high-altitude parcels around Radda and Gaiole produce elegant, organically certified Chianti Classico from pure Sangiovese. Each vineyard cru tells its own story; together, they showcase the precision and terroir that new-generation Chianti can achieve.
