Jean-Philippe Fichet is a master of Meursault, but here he crosses into neighboring Puligny-Montrachet for his lone premier cru, Les Referts, a top site that sits right on the Meursault border and splits the difference between the two villages' styles. Fichet's signature carries over: hand farming, a patient 18-month elevage in mostly used wood and then tank, very little lees stirring, all in pursuit of a racy, transparent, electric wine. The 2024 vintage is fresh and precise. This is the most ambitious white in his range, premier cru Puligny with both Meursault's flesh and Puligny's chiseled cut. Built to age, so give it time.

More about Jean-Philippe Fichet

A tireless devotee of Meursault's terroir, Fichet works his vines from dawn to dusk with severe pruning and relentless focus. His Aligoté shatters the grape's reputation for anonymity—crystalline, focused, with the stoniness of serious Burgundy. This is proof that Aligoté, in the right hands, becomes a wine worth seeking out.
