Moschofilero smells so much like Muscat that everyone assumes the two are related — they aren't, and this pink-skinned Peloponnese grape makes one of the Mediterranean's most refreshing dry whites. The Kalogeropoulos family farms it on the Mantinia plateau in Arcadia at 750 to 800 meters on limestone, in one of the coldest growing climates in Greece: snowy winters, mild summers, and a long slow ripening that builds perfume without letting the sugar run away. Petros Kalogeropoulos, the second generation here, laid the foundations for the winery among the vines in 2002; the juice is chilled before fermentation to protect the aromatics, fermented slowly and cool, then left two months on its fine lees with regular stirring for a bit of texture. 2025 treated the plateau well — a hard late-March frost caused uneven growth, but the high vineyards sailed through a cool, rainy spring with almost no disease pressure and finished under sunshine, so the aromatics and the acidity both arrived intact. Serve it very cold, and pour it before dinner as readily as during.
