A family Chateauneuf-du-Pape from a small, traditional estate in the heart of the appellation, now showing the rewards of cellar age. The Mestre family has worked these galets-strewn vineyards since the early 1970s, hand-harvesting Grenache-led blends rounded out with Mourvedre and Syrah. This 2010 hails from one of the southern Rhone's most celebrated vintages, a year that produced structured, long-lived wines, and at fifteen years old it has shed its baby fat and moved into its mature stride. Decant and drink now over the next few years.

Antonio Galloni

90 points

"Vivid ruby. Fresh red berries and spices on the fragrant nose and in the mouth. Juicy, focused, silky in texture, with slow-building spiciness. Suave and open-knit, with lingering sweetness and harmonious tannins." —Josh Raynolds

Robert Parker

93 points

"The 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape is a blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Mourvedre and 10% Syrah aged in a combination of cement and old wood foudres. The wine has a dense ruby/purple color and a classic nose of blueberries, blackberries, licorice, new saddle leather, roasted meats as well as pepper and spice. It is full-bodied, moderately tannic and impressive. Let it age for another 2-3 years and drink it over the following 15 or more." —Robert M. Parker, Jr.

Wine Spectator

93 points

"A muscular, dark style, with a baker's chocolate note up front that slowly gives way to thickly layered plum sauce, blackberry paste and dark current fruit flavors. Ganache, espresso and roasted alder fill in the finish, which will need some cellaring to stretch out fully."

Wine Enthusiast

90 points

"It's not the biggest-bodied Châteaubeuf-du-Pape, but it is charming, displaying a welcome blend of raspberries, Mourvèdre-like funkiness and dark chocolate. The texture is lush, the feel warm and welcoming. Perfect for near-term drinking."

Tasting Profile

A mature southern Rhone red. Warm, generous Grenache fruit now turned to dried red berries, leather, garrigue herbs and a peppery, earthy depth. Full-bodied with softened tannins and a long, savory finish.
