Lafarge-Vial is a collaboration between Frédéric Lafarge of Domaine Michel Lafarge in Volnay and his wife Chantal Vial, established in 2014. Frédéric brings his Burgundian winemaking philosophy to the granite soils of Beaujolais, applying the same attention to terroir and minimal intervention that defines his family's Volnay wines. The domaine farms approximately 4 hectares across Fleurie and Beaujolais-Villages. Certified organic (Ecocert). Vinification follows Burgundian methods: whole-cluster fermentation, indigenous yeast, aging in older Burgundy barrels, and bottling without fining or filtration. A Beaujolais that speaks with a Burgundian accent—structured, site-driven, and built for the table.

Antonio Galloni

89 points

"The 2023 Fleurie was a little more backward and stubborn than the Chiroubles on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied with a mix of sweet red cherries and orange zest, gentle grip and a harmonious, spicier finish." —Neal Martin

Robert Parker

90 points

"The 2023 Fleurie, crafted from two distinct plots—Bel Air, picked on the first day of harvest, and Cercillon, picked on the last—reveals a striking floral character, dominated by white powdery blossoms. On the palate, it is sappy and vibrant, bursting with concentrated flavors of raspberry and cherry, though simultaneously grounded by a lining of abundant powdery tannins. This combination stands as an impressive representation of the multifaceted nature of Fleurie, seamlessly blending the "hard" and the "soft" in a single cuvée." —Kenna Wells

More about Lafarge-Vial

Frédéric Lafarge and his wife Chantal made a radical move in 2014: they left Volnay to start over in Beaujolais. At Fleurie, they farm biodynamically and make wine using traditional Burgundian methods. Their kids Maxime-Henri and Clothilde are taking over—ensuring the weird, beautiful vision continues.
