Roughly seventy percent of this blend is Pinot Noir from Vosne-Romanée and Morey-Saint-Denis, declassified into a humbler appellation; the other thirty percent is Gamay. That is the whole appeal of Coteaux Bourguignons - it lets a serious Côte d'Or house put fruit from famous Côte de Nuits villages into a bottle that does not carry their names. Marchand-Tawse is Pascal Marchand, the Québécois who made his name at Comte Armand and Domaine de la Vougeraie, in partnership with Moray Tawse of Niagara since 2011; the fruit is hand-harvested and the vineyards are farmed biodynamically. Harvest in 2023 began on 9 September and ran three weeks, with the reds mostly landing around 13% alcohol. Give it a light chill and drink it young: the Gamay makes it fun, the Pinot keeps it honest.
