Dry Riesling from the Finger Lakes of upstate New York, made the patient, old-world way: native yeasts, long fermentations and months resting on the lees instead of a quick trip through the cellar. Nathan Kendall is a Finger Lakes native who founded Nathan K. in 2011, after working in Sonoma, the Willamette Valley, Waipara in New Zealand, Australia's Adelaide Hills and the Mosel before coming home to Seneca Lake. His Dry Riesling comes from three Seneca Lake vineyards with vines 20 to 40 years old. Kendall never fines his wines and filters them only gently, because his aim is good grapes and as little intervention as possible. If you want to see how seriously the Finger Lakes can take dry Riesling, this is a great place to start. (He's also the man behind chëpìka, his partnership with his friend Pascaline Lepeltier.)

Tasting Profile

Expect the classic dry Finger Lakes Riesling profile: lime, green apple and white peach, with a stony, slatey minerality. Light-bodied and taut with bright, racy acidity, though months on the lees typically add a gentle textural roundness. Think dry German Riesling in spirit, finishing crisp, clean and dry.
