Finger Lakes Pinot Noir from a winemaker who went around the world to learn his craft and then came home to use it. Nathan Kendall grew up among the vineyards and tasting rooms of Dundee, New York. Before founding Nathan K. in 2011, he worked in Sonoma, the Willamette Valley, Waipara in New Zealand, the Adelaide Hills in Australia and Germany's Mosel, nearly all of it cool-climate country, which is where Pinot Noir does its best work. All along, his plan was to return to Seneca Lake and make old-world-style wines from good grapes with as little intervention as possible. That means carefully sorted fruit, long spontaneous fermentations, time on the gross lees for texture, and no fining. His Pinot comes from Seneca Lake vineyards on soils that range from silt loam to shale. If you've been looking for an American Pinot that's about freshness rather than sheer ripeness, this makes a strong case that upstate New York belongs in that conversation.

Tasting Profile

Expect a cool-climate Finger Lakes Pinot Noir: red cherry, cranberry and raspberry with earthy, lightly savoury notes and a hint of stony minerality. It's typically light to medium-bodied, with bright acidity, fine tannins and a softly textured palate from time on the lees. The finish is fresh and dry, closer to red Burgundy than to riper California Pinot.
