Bassi Vineyard sits 1.2 miles from the cold Pacific above Avila Beach, biodynamically farmed on a south-facing hillside of marine sandstone and sandy loam. Outward's Ryan Pace and Natalie Siddique pick early, ferment with native yeast, and age 10 months on undisturbed lees in neutral oak. There's no malolactic flab, no buttery makeover, no oak veneer: just lemon, sea spray, orchard fruit, and a chalky, bone-dry finish that tastes like the coast it came from. Ryan Pace and Natalie Siddique started Outward Wines in 2016 to share their love of Syrah and the Central Coast of California. Now they farm six acres across San Luis Obispo Coast and the Santa Ynez Valley, plus they source from other thoughtfully farmed, coastal-influenced vineyards. It's small-lot, site-specific, and serious about terroir. Avant-Garde Wine & Spirits imports them. The kind of project that starts with passion and scales only as far as principle allows.

Perfect Pairings

Made for raw oysters, grilled halibut, or a Dungeness crab roll. Also lovely with brandade, white-fish crudo with citrus and olive oil, roast chicken with lemon, or a hunk of aged comte at the end of the meal.

Tasting Profile

Pale gold. Meyer lemon, green apple, white flowers, sea salt, and crushed flint. Lean and racy on the palate with chalky texture, bright acidity, and a long, saline, almost oyster-shell finish.
