L'Huisserie is where Philippe Alliet's Chinon meets a serious piece of ground. It's a single south-facing vineyard on Chinon's "première côte," with clay and flint over limestone that sits close to the surface, planted to Cabernet Franc vines more than 20 years old. Philippe and his son Pierre farm organically and destem every bunch across their range, a deliberate break from the green, vegetal streak that puts some drinkers off Loire reds. The wine ferments on native yeasts in older 500-liter barrels, ages in those same barrels, and is bottled unfined and unfiltered. Those big, well-used barrels are the point: they give the wine shape without masking the site. If you think of Chinon as a light bistro red, this is the bottle to change your mind, and it's worth thinking about what Cabernet Franc this serious costs from further south.

More about Philippe Alliet

Summer's perfect red from Chinon's slopes. Philippe is a reference point for new-generation Loire winemakers: low yields, ripe fruit, obsessive vineyard care. He makes 100% Cabernet Franc, inspired by Bordeaux's power but rooted in Chinon's saline terroir. Long fermentation, aged in 500-liter casks with reduced new wood. The result is a red that defines summer over ice—serious yet refreshing.

What has to say about this wine:

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Herb-roasted leg of lamb, duck breast with a cherry sauce, steak frites, wild mushroom and lentil ragout, roast pork loin with thyme, aged Comté

Tasting Profile

Expect the riper, more structured side of Chinon: red and black cherry, raspberry and violet, with a stony, graphite edge and only a gentle frame from large, older barrels. Typically medium-bodied, with fresh acidity and fine, firm tannins, finishing dry and savoury. Think of a lighter, more perfumed take on Left Bank Bordeaux.

The Loire Valley is France’s greatest source of value for anyone looking for elegant, terroir-driven wines. Our collection celebrates the region’s great diversity, with the mineral-driven whites of Muscadet and Sancerre, the beautiful Chenin Blancs and Cabernet Francs from villages like Vouvray and Chinon, and natural wines from everywhere in the region. Sometimes wonderfully fresh and gulpable, sometimes serious and age-worthy, the prices are always very reasonable.
