A mature bottle of one of the Northern Rhône's most sought-after Syrahs. The Gonon brothers, Pierre and Jean, work the steep granite hillsides of Mauves at the heart of Saint-Joseph, directly opposite Hermitage and on the same granitic bedrock. Their organic farming (chemical-free since 2004; certified later), hand harvesting and native-yeast fermentation yield Syrah prized for purity and finesse over sheer power. The 2014 came from a cooler, fresher Northern Rhône vintage, which suits Gonon's elegant, perfumed style beautifully, and a decade of age has brought it into a savory, complex maturity. Smoke, pepper and olive lead the way here; this is a cult wine, hard to find, and drinking gorgeously now.
