Produttori del Barbaresco only bottles Riserva in vintages it considers worthy, and 2008 cleared the bar. That season ran roughly two weeks behind after a cold, stormy spring, then recovered into warm days and cold nights that carried Nebbiolo through one of the decade's latest harvests in October, the kind of long, slow finish that gives deep flavor, fine acidity and structure built to last. Eighteen years on, that structure has done its work. The co-op is Piedmont's great equalizer, with member growers farming holdings across nine of Barbaresco's best sites, and the Riservas get 28 days on the skins and at least 30 months in large oak casks. This bottle came from a private cellar rather than the winery, so stand it upright a day ahead, decant off the sediment, and drink it now rather than cellaring it further.
