The 2020 Barbaresco Riserva “Pora” from Produttori del Barbaresco exemplifies the estate’s commitment to crafting wines of exceptional depth and grace. Sourced from one of the most celebrated vineyards in the Barbaresco DOCG, this Nebbiolo is a beautiful representation of the Pora terroir—offering both power and refinement.

The wine opens with layers of ripe red fruit—cherry and raspberry—balanced by subtle earthy notes, dried flowers, and a touch of spice. The tannins are structured yet silky, offering a firm backbone while maintaining the wine’s characteristic elegance. With its bright acidity and incredible balance, this Barbaresco will continue to evolve in the bottle, gaining even more complexity with time.

“Pora” is a wine that demands attention but also rewards those who take the time to savor it. It’s ideal for pairing with rich, flavorful dishes like braised meats, truffle pasta, or aged cheeses, but it’s just as captivating when enjoyed on its own. This wine is a true reflection of the Barbaresco region—where tradition, terroir, and expertise come together in perfect harmony.

Antonio Galloni

"The 2020 Barbaresco Riserva Pora is aromatic, effusive and quite charming. Crushed flowers, spice, leather, tobacco and cedar lend notable inner sweetness. Medium in body and gracious, the Pora is pretty approachable today, although it will be better with a few years in bottle. This is a very beautiful, vivid Pora and a fine introduction to the Riservas." —Antonio Galloni

Robert Parker

"This is the first wine served in a flight of nine that increase in intensity and power moving forward. The Produttori del Barbaresco 2020 Barbaresco Riserva Pora opens to a medium-light color with garnet highlights. Aromas include wild cherry, cassis and blue flower. You also get hints of crushed limestone. The Pora vineyard is near the Tanaro River Valley, where warm air accumulates, and the vines are planted in fertile soils. The extra heat and humidity of the area makes for accessible wines that are ready to drink and are less complex overall." —Monica Larner

Kerin O'Keefe

94 points

"Always the most open and less tannic of the single-vineyard Riservas, the lovely 2020 Pora from Produttori is a generous wine, delivering aromas and flavors of crushed cranberry, succulent cherry, star anise, wild herb and hazelnut. Polished tannins offer smooth support." —Kerin O'Keefe

Tasting Profile

Plum and cherry aromas with mineral and herb notes. Medium-to-full body with structured tannins and balanced acidity, showing complexity and depth.

The Produttori is Barbaresco’s benchmark producer. A huge share of the village’s best farmers, representing virtually all of its best terroirs, bring their fruit to the co-op. It is hard to be admitted to the co-op. There is a waiting list; only a few make it.

Once you are in, the rules are strict. You don’t get to hold back any wine for your own labels. This isn’t a region where growers ship off their second best to the co-op and put their pride and joy in their own luxury bottles. You have to meet strict quality controls, of course. The Produttori is only devoted to quality-minded farmers with incredible terroir giving their all.

The winemaking is likewise next level. Aldo Vacca, the co-op’s general manager, is one of the wine world’s greatest artists. If you ever have the opportunity to meet and taste with him, take it; he is also one of the wine world’s great communicators.
