SoHu stands for South of Hungary, which tells you exactly where you are: Slavonia, in Croatia's inland east, just below the Hungarian border and a long way from the Dalmatian coast everyone photographs. The wine is 100% Grasevina, the grape known elsewhere as Welschriesling and by a wide margin Croatia's most-planted white. It comes from Feravino, based in Fericanci, whose cellar dates back to 1804, and it is made with no fuss at all: hand-harvested, destemmed, fermented in stainless steel, rested in tank before bottling. No oak, no oxidative games, nothing to distract from the grape. If you have never had Grasevina, this is the honest, easy way to find out why half of Croatia drinks it.

Tasting Profile
