Il Rosato (“the rosato,” as he calls it) is the pink wine that does it all. First and foremost, it’s a great rose — refreshing with bright acidity and crisp fruit. But Gattinara is serious, Alto Piemonte terroir, and there’s no one making more impressive Nebbiolo than Roberto, and even his rose shows that side of things.

Made with Nebbiolo from Gattinara's trademark volcanic, porphyric slopes, it has an unmistakably mineral backbone and the fruit and build to age for a few years. If you only want a glass, you can open a bottle, put the rest in the fridge, and follow it over a few days. 2024 was cool and challenging in the Alte Piemonte, and fanatical attention to detail was required to make great wine. Well, Roberto is nothing if not fanatical, and this is great wine, perfect on its own in the hot and sun, but amazing with food from Caprese salad or sushi to pasta or Piedmontese classics like vitello tonnato.
