Another year has come and gone. And as it always is this time of year, we get the opportunity to look forward and look back! The Fredrick Wildman Burgundy trade tasting is a one-of-a-kind industry event. It offers the first look, each year, of the coming vintage. Naturally, this year’s event covering 2018 Burgundies was not one to miss.

Frederick Wildman imports many of Burgundy's greatest wines, and we are thrilled to be offering them as part of our second ever Frederick Wildman Burgundy pre-sale.

This offer is not only the best pricing we will be able to offer on these wines--for many of the wines this will be your only chance to buy them from us at any price, since our allocations tend to sell out long before a single bottle makes it to the shelf.

And it isn't just the famous superstars we're excited about. Wildman has a deep bench, with names like Lignier-Michelot (Morey), Gruhier (Epineuil), and a shop favorite, Christian Moreau (Chablis). These are wine makers who, dollar for dollar, bottle some of the most compelling wines in Burgundy--and the world.

There’s a lot we already know about the coming 2018 vintage. We will post a few blog posts on this in the coming days and weeks. But for now, we want to share some of our first impressions. 

2018 is a perfect vintage for many of these producers. 

Critics are lauding the whites and producers are enamored with the joie de vivre personality of the reds. The wines are ripe but have beautiful, balanced acidity. 

2018 is also a treat after recent vintages, because quantities are as good as they've been in a decade. While this should mean plenty to go around, we all know the global demand has spiked for Burgundy, making this your only chance to secure the wines you desire.

At the Wildman tasting, our team tasted through all our favorites. We agree, this is the most inviting fruit we've tasted since 2009, but with an added freshness. This is a vintage you can enjoy right now, but some villages, Nuits-st-Georges especially, will go the distance.

There are always plenty of questions regarding our Direct Import pre-sales and we have tried to lay out the details below. Please reach out if you have any further questions or concerns.

If you have not been part of one of our DI programs before this is a quick overview of what to expect:

• All of these wines are in Europe, in the care of their winemakers, not even bottled yet.
• Peruse the list and send us your requests via email.
• We will acknowledge your requests with a quote which you will need to approve.
• Wildman will then confirm our total order. Only then we will be able to confirm your order with you. If we have to cut any of your requests we will let you know at this point. This will take several weeks.
• The wineries will then get to work bottling, packing, and shipping the wine. It usually arrives in NY in the late fall but can take up to the end of the year.
• We will receive the wines and begin packing them for distribution to you. As soon as they are ready for delivery or pickup we will let you know.

The nitty-gritty on the Wildman Burgundy 2018's Direct Import pre-sale:

• All orders must be submitted to Clara by Sunday, March 15th.
• You will receive a confirmation of your requests, you WILL NOT be able to pay for the wines at that time.
• Many wines are limited, all orders are subject to confirmation, and unfortunately there can be cuts made to your order.
• Confirmations will hopefully happen in May, but there is no guarantee on that date.
• You will receive a final confirmation and invoice from Shopify once confirmations are given from Wildman. You must pay for your wines through the link in the invoice at this time.
• Wildman expects the wine to arrive by November but this date is not guaranteed, but hopefully not much later.
• Upon the wines' arrival, we will contact you to arrange for delivery or pick up.

• Delivery is subject to our usual policies and all of our other regular terms and conditions apply.
• Purchase and delivery will be available only from the New York store. California will not have a direct import sale, but some wines will be available there for purchase in the fall.
