The Bergström Vineyard—thirteen acres on a south-facing slope of Dundee Hills' volcanic Jory soil—is where this family's Oregon wine story began in 1999. Dr. John Bergström, a Swedish immigrant and renowned surgeon, planted these vines to create a lasting legacy; his son Josh, trained in Beaune, now crafts the wines with his Burgundian wife Caroline. Over twenty-five years of biodynamic farming have deepened this vineyard's expression. The 2023 is complex and layered: grilled meats, black cherry, wisteria, and wood smoke on the nose, with loganberry, cocoa nib, and spice on a palate of lush tannins. Aged in French oak with ten to fifteen percent new wood.

"The 2023 Pinot Noir Bergström Vineyard is impossible to ignore, offering a playful bouquet of crushed cherries, dusty rose and tarragon, complicated by earth tones and a hint of sweet smoke. Lifted and graceful in style, it soothes the senses with fresh acidity and pretty red berry fruits as violet inner florals arch across the palate. Dr. John and Karen Bergstrom started Bergström in 1999 on the belief that Oregon's Willamette Valley makes the world's greatest new Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays. All 84 acres across five estate vineyards are farmed biodynamically. Located in Dundee with tasting at Ekollon perched above the vineyards, they offer private tastings and a clear-eyed commitment to terroir. Two decades in, they've proven their conviction.
