White Burgundy that punches several appellations above its weight. Jean-Philippe Fichet is one of Meursault's most respected names, a self-made vigneron who founded his estate in 1985. The Bourgogne Blanc Vieilles Vignes is drawn from two parcels of 40-plus-year-old Chardonnay just outside the Meursault village line — in Fichet's hands, it regularly outperforms most Meursault villages bottlings. His signature is restraint: barrel-fermented but essentially no new oak, a patient eighteen-month élevage and almost no lees stirring, leaving the terroir bare. 2019 was a concentrated, structured vintage in the Côte de Beaune, and the deep roots of these old vines absorbed the warmth without breaking a sweat — expect denser fruit, more textural weight, and the classic Fichet salinity to keep everything taut.

More about Jean-Philippe Fichet

A tireless devotee of Meursault's terroir, Fichet works his vines from dawn to dusk with severe pruning and relentless focus. His Aligoté shatters the grape's reputation for anonymity—crystalline, focused, with the stoniness of serious Burgundy. This is proof that Aligoté, in the right hands, becomes a wine worth seeking out.
