A Meursault legend's take on Chassagne. Jean-Philippe Fichet built his name in the Meursault cellars he founded in 1985 — one of the most quietly admired white-Burgundy producers of his generation. His Chassagne-Montrachet, a village-level bottling from a vineyard he has nurtured with a longtime grower partner, gets the same restrained Fichet treatment: barrel fermentation in untoasted Damy barrels, no new oak to speak of, eighteen-month élevage on the lees, no stirring. The 2020 vintage gave Burgundy a paradox — warm growing season, brisk-acid whites — and the wine reads beautifully on it: fresh white orchard fruit, a discreet kiss of wood, lemon-pith cut and the rich palate-coating density you want from Chassagne. Drinking gorgeously now and built to age.

"A discreet application of wood sets off the fresh aromas of resin, various white orchard fruit and a plentitude of citrus elements. There is very good density and volume to the rich and palate coating flavors that offers both fine depth and persistence. This fine Chassagne villages is worth checking out." —Allen Meadows

More about Jean-Philippe Fichet

A tireless devotee of Meursault's terroir, Fichet works his vines from dawn to dusk with severe pruning and relentless focus. His Aligoté shatters the grape's reputation for anonymity—crystalline, focused, with the stoniness of serious Burgundy. This is proof that Aligoté, in the right hands, becomes a wine worth seeking out.

Roast chicken with morels, halibut with beurre blanc, lobster risotto, soft-rind cheeses, or pork loin with apple. Refined enough for white truffle pasta in season.

Medium- to full-bodied and refined. White peach, ripe pear, lemon pith, toasted almond and a discreet hint of brioche. Brisk acidity, plush mid-palate, long mineral-edged finish.
