In a region where white wine is often rushed into bottle and forgotten, Hermanos de Peciña takes the long view. Rooted in Rioja Alta, this Viura is fermented with native yeasts and aged in neutral American oak with regular stirring—reviving an older, more contemplative style of Rioja Blanco rarely seen today.

But despite the traditional methods, this isn’t a heavy wine. The 2021 vintage is calm and composed—more about structure and feel than fruit. It carries subtle weight from the lees and wood, but it’s held in check by Viura’s natural acidity and a gentle, earthy persistence that speaks more of vineyard than cellar.

Founded in 1992 by Pedro Peciña Crespo and his three sons, Bodegas Pecina owns 50 hectares in the small section of La Rioja Alta located on north side of the Ebro River. Pedro was previously vineyard manager of famed bodega La Rioja Alta, so here you get experience and tradition without the price tag typically attached.

"The white 2021 Señorío de P. Peciña Cosecha Blanco is a fresh expression of the Viura from San Vicente de la Sonsierra with a moderate 12% alcohol, a low pH and high acidity, reflecting a cooler year, with lemony aromas, hints of fennel and hay. The palate is fresh and the flavors clean and persistent, with a pleasant twist in the finish. 15,000 bottles produced. It was bottled unoaked in December 2022." -Robert Parker
