Legendary 2015 Côte-Rôtie in magnum, from one of the appellation's great traditional families. Brigitte Roch and Gilbert Clusel — now joined by son Guillaume — have been quietly making some of Côte-Rôtie's most honest, terroir-driven Syrah for decades. La Viallière is their parcel on the Côte Brune side, planted to vines going back to 1984 on schist soils that yield Syrah of both finesse and depth. 2015 was a Northern Rhône vintage for the ages — perfect ripeness, perfect acid, structure built for the long haul. The 1.5L magnum format ages slower and more gracefully than a 750ml, and ten years in, this bottle is just easing into its first real drinking window with decades of life still ahead.

Guillaume Clusel continues a family legacy that began in 1969 on the steep granite slopes of Ampuis. His six hectares of Syrah in Côte-Rôtie are farmed organically; his half-hectare of Viognier in Condrieu sits on biotite granite and yields wines of mineral precision. Whole-bunch fermentation and natural practices preserve the fragrance. This is Northern Rhône doing what it does best.

Tasting Profile

Full-bodied and structured, with black cherry, smoked meat, olive tapenade, violet, and cracked pepper. Schist minerality runs through the core, tannins still firm, acidity vibrant, the finish long and brooding.
