This is Clos Vougeot from a domaine that, until recently, barely exported its wines. Now that Claire Fleurot is in charge, the rest of the world is starting to notice. Coquard-Loison-Fleurot is based in Flagey-Échezeaux and makes nothing but Pinot Noir. We'd call the house style precise and reverent, and this 2015 is elegant. A reputation that's rising this fast doesn't stay a secret for long, so this is a chance to get in early on a name serious Burgundy drinkers will be hearing more about. It's a back-vintage bottle that's already had a decade to settle, from a producer whose wines were hard to find outside France not long ago.

Tasting Profile

Expect the classic Clos Vougeot profile: dark cherry, plum and violet, with savoury notes of forest floor and sweet spice. Typically fuller and firmer than most red Burgundy, with fresh acidity and fine-grained tannins. Given the domaine's precise, elegant style, it should finish long and earthy, and it's built to age.
