A Meursault family's detour into Beaune, and one of the less obvious white Burgundies we're happy to point people toward. Nearly every plot the Millots farm is in Meursault. Clos les Longes is one of just two wines they make from the commune of Beaune (the other is the Premier Cru Les Sizies). It's a small operation: Emilien Millot, who took over from his father Bernard at 22, farms eight hectares across Meursault, Beaune and Puligny-Montrachet. The family goes back at least to 1888, when Emilien's great-great-grandfather Stephen Rougeot wrote that year's harvest details in a notebook. We've long called this house fantastic white Burgundy at retro prices, farmed to show site and vintage rather than winemaker ego. Beaune Blanc gets far less attention than its Meursault neighbours, which is exactly where that kind of value tends to hide.

Perfect Pairings

Roast chicken with tarragon cream sauce; pan-seared scallops in brown butter; trout amandine; gougères or a wedge of aged Comté; mushroom risotto.

Tasting Profile

Expect the classic Beaune Blanc profile: yellow apple, pear and lemon, often with hints of hazelnut and the gentle toast typical of Burgundian barrel ageing. Typically medium-bodied and rounded but kept fresh by bright acidity, finishing dry, clean and lightly mineral. Think of it as a slightly softer, easier-going cousin of Meursault.
