The 2020 vintage was exceptional in Burgundy: warm, dry, and concentrated, producing wines of real depth at the village level. In magnum, this concentration has softened into something rich and textured without heaviness. About six years into its journey, this wine is in an ideal window—old enough to show development and secondary fruit (almond, dried citrus, hazelnut), young enough to retain brightness and acidity. Magnum ensures this concentrated fruit will continue evolving gracefully through the 2030s.

"(60% of the blend is from Clos de la Baronne with the rest from Les Crotots, Les Gruyaches, Narvaux and Sous la Velle). This was bottled the day before my visit and not surprisingly, there was some unabsorbed sulfur on the otherwise pure and elegant aromas of hazelnut, white flower and the cool essence of pear and apple compote. There is again very good verve to the utterly delicious and solidly concentrated middle weight flavors that possess." —Allen Meadows

"The 2020 Meursault Villages is bright, linear and sculpted. Jean-Marc Roulot did a terrific job in preserving freshness and verve in his village-level Meursault. Lemon peel, white flowers, mint and crushed rocks are all laced together in this steely, nervy Meursault. The Villages is a blend of several parcels on the lower slopes of town; namely Clos de la Baronne, Gruyaches and Sous la Velle, plus a touch of young-vine fruit from Porusots Dessus." —Neal Martin

"The most giving communal-level bottling from Roulot is the 2020 Meursault Village, a medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy wine evocative of orange oil, sweet orchard fruit and nutmeg. It's based on fruit from the Clos de la Baronne, which shapes the wine's personality." —William Kelley

More about Domaine Roulot

The name Roulot is now a synonym for the very best wine that the village of Meursault can offer. It is rather remarkable when you consider that just 2 generations back the Roulot's were known as producers of Burgundian brandy and eau de vie. But Guy Roulot began leveraging the family's distilling success to purchase small plots of vines in Meursault and by the 1970's was known as a pioneer for producing top quality chardonnay from distinct parcels or ""lieu-dits"".

When Guy passed away unexpectedly in the early '80's his son Jean-Marc was pursuing acting in Paris. In 1989 he returned to take on the reigns of the small Domaine and in the following decades built on his fathers success so well that the wines are now extremely hard to acquire and to afford for most of us.
