Vom Roten Schiefer means "from the red slate," and that's exactly what this is - your entry point into the Roter Hang, blended from declassified fruit off Gunderloch's three grand cru sites: Rothenberg, Pettenthal, and Hipping. Think of it as a baby Grosses Gewachs. It's very dry, barely a whisper of sugar, and it channels that signature iron-red minerality without asking you to think about it too hard. "The 2024 Riesling vom Roten Schiefer was picked in the entirety of the Red Slope, across altitudes and parcels. Some whole berries were added to the ferment for texture. Immediacy defines the nose. All is present right away: florality, fruitiness and almost a sense of apple candy. It has ripeness, smoothness and flow on the bone-dry palate.
