What is this wine?
Hubert Soreau is a small grower based in Épernay, working almost entirely with fruit from Le Clos de l’Abbé, a walled vineyard first planted by monks in the 9th century. This rare single-vineyard Champagne is made from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier, farmed organically and vinified with minimal intervention. The 2013 vintage, cool and late-ripening, produced precise, structured Champagnes with excellent aging potential.

Why get this wine?
Clos wines are exceedingly rare in Champagne, and Le Clos de l’Abbé offers both history and singularity. Hubert Soreau’s bottlings are produced in tiny quantities and are highly sought after by collectors. With its Brut Nature style—no dosage added—the wine delivers unadulterated terroir expression and a thrilling balance of purity, minerality, and depth.

What does this wine taste like?
Taut and complex, with citrus, green apple, and pear layered over chalky minerality. Hints of brioche, almond, and spice emerge with air, while the finish is long, saline, and precise.

When should you drink this wine?
Delicious now for its tension and clarity, but best from 2025 onward as it develops further complexity. Will age gracefully for 10–15 years. Perfect with oysters, sushi, or simply on its own as a contemplative glass.

Champagne

Champagne boasts some of the world’s greatest luxury brands with Krug, Cristal and, of course, Dom Perignon. But it’s also home to hundreds of small dynamic producers—farmers who grow their own grapes (often organically) and make (often with natural methods) tiny amounts of pure and absolutely delicious wine that reflect the individual personalities of their villages and terroirs. Toast with these wines, for sure. But also treat them like the great wines they are: taste, drink, explore!
