Jean Foillard is one of Beaujolais' legends, a member of Kermit Lynch's celebrated "Gang of Four" and a father of natural wine whose Morgon was, for many of us, the introduction to a different kind of living, no-makeup Beaujolais. His wines are both serious and simple, lush fruit and refreshing minerality from old Gamay vines and patient, semi-carbonic fermentation. Corcelette is his sandier, more perfumed Morgon cru, lighter on its feet than Cote du Py. This 2013 came from a cool vintage that gave fresh, lifted wines; a decade on, it's drinking in a lovely mature register.

92 points

"Limpid violet. Bright, mineral-accented red and dark berry aromas show excellent clarity and pick up deeper cherry pit and licorice qualities as the wine opens up. Juicy and concentrated, offering lively bitter cherry and black raspberry flavors given spine and focus and a smoky mineral component. Powerful yet graceful, featuring a suave, floral-tinged and gently tannic finish that lingers with strong tenacity." —Josh Raynolds

More about Jean Foillard

Jean Foillard is a natural-wine icon and charter member of Beaujolais' legendary 'gang of four'—those who answered Jules Chauvet's call to refuse pesticides, chaptalisation, and filtration. For half a century, his 14 organically farmed hectares have produced Morgon from the famed Côte du Py, with its roches pourries (rotten rock) of decomposed granite and schist. His wines are serious, lush, and utterly unforgettable.
