Jean-Philippe Fichet is one of Meursault's master winemakers, the man who put the overlooked lieux-dits of his village on the map by chasing transparency harder than almost anyone. His philosophy is simple: Meursault's terroir brings richness, so his job in vineyard and cellar is to guard freshness and length. Here he steps just across the hill to Auxey-Duresses, a cooler, higher-altitude neighbor that delivers white Burgundy with extra cut and energy for less than the famous names ask. Hand-farmed Chardonnay, patient 18-month elevage in mostly used wood and then tank, very little lees stirring, so the wine stays racy and precise. A smart way into Fichet's world.
