White Burgundy that punches several appellations above its weight — and now with seven years of bottle age. Jean-Philippe Fichet is one of Meursault's most respected names, a self-made vigneron who started his estate in 1981. The Bourgogne Blanc Vieilles Vignes comes from two parcels of 40-plus-year-old Chardonnay vines just outside the Meursault village line — in his hands, it routinely outperforms many Meursault villages bottlings. Fichet's signature: barrel-fermented but essentially no new oak, a patient eighteen-month élevage and almost no lees stirring, leaving the terroir bare. The 2018 is the warm, generous bookend of his recent vertical — ripe orchard fruit, a creamy hazelnut depth, and the saline lift that Fichet always finds, now in a beautifully open drinking window.
