"The nose of the 2022 Indie Xisto reminds me of a wine from one of the more elegant crus from Beaujolais—it is intense, with ripe berries, herbs and a meaty hint that gives it a wilder touch. It comes from 70-year-old vines in Alijó planted with a field blend of varieties like Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca, Tinta Amarela, Rufete and Tinta Barroca, etc., at 580 meters in altitude. The full clusters fermented with indigenous yeasts in concrete with a maceration of 28 days, extracting some color but plenty of aromas and flavors, and matured in 500-liter barrels and 2,500-liter oak vats. It comes in at 13.5% alcohol and is juicy and silky, not warm at all, textured and tasty, with depth and complexity. It is a triumph over the vintage. 6,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in August 2024." —Luis Gutiérrez

More about Luis Seabra

After a decade at Niepoort making wines to someone else's taste, Luis Seabra launched his own Douro winery to shatter preconceptions. His Xisto Ilimitado is a field blend from schist soils—rabigato, códega, gouveio, and more—fermented native, aged in old oak, with pear-blossom perfume and a saline finish.
