From biodynamic vineyards in the Grand Cru of Verzy, this Brut Nature Champagne expresses the minerality and structure of the Grande Montagne de Reims. Mouzon-Leroux's 65% Pinot Noir and 35% Chardonnay assemblage undergoes spontaneous fermentation in 228-liter oak barrels and ages on its lees for 36+ months with zero dosage, preserving raw authenticity. This release is built on the 2022 base vintage, drawn from parcels spread across Verzy's three valleys. The result is a fresh, vibrant wine with fine perlage, elegant complexity, and a distinctive terroir character that rewards cellaring.

Robert Parker

90 points

"Disgorged in February 2021 with two grams per liter dosage, the NV Extra-Brut L’Atavique Tradition offers up aromas of mint, lime zest, crisp orchard fruit and vanilla pod. Medium-bodied, taut and linear, it's chalky and incisive, with racy acids, a pillowy mousse and a long, saline finish."

Decanter

90 points

"More naturalistically styled than most in this tasting, this is full of interest and character. Dry apple, bitter almond and apricot, bristling and lightly grippy with some briny and herbal savour and oxidative touches. Expressive and forward, with a salivating dryness. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from Verzy in the Montagne de Reims, based on 2018."

Wine Spectator

93 points

"A sculpted Champagne that's firm and mouthwatering, yet the fine and creamy mousse softens the impression, bringing overall harmony. The baked white cherry, raspberry coulis, pickled ginger and anise notes are underscored by a streak of salty mineral, and accents of lime blossoms and graphite chime on the finish. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay."

More about Mouzon-Leroux

Sébastien Mouzon is the ninth generation in Verzy, Champagne, and the first to go biodynamic (2008), add agroforestry (2011), and refuse sulfites. His seven hectares, planted in 50 tiny parcels, make Champagne without ego—just precision, terroir, and the quiet confidence of someone whose family's been doing this since 1776.

Champagne

Champagne boasts some of the world’s greatest luxury brands with Krug, Cristal and, of course, Dom Perignon. But it’s also home to hundreds of small dynamic producers—farmers who grow their own grapes (often organically) and make (often with natural methods) tiny amounts of pure and absolutely delicious wine that reflect the individual personalities of their villages and terroirs. Toast with these wines, for sure. But also treat them like the great wines they are: taste, drink, explore!
