Pira may be Roagna's monopole, but Pajé is their crown jewel of Barbaresco. The VV designation signals "Vecchie Vigne"—old vines that the family has cultivated in this legendary cru for decades. Pajé sits in Barbaresco proper, one of the appellation's most prized vineyard sites, known for producing wines of exceptional elegance and aromatic complexity. Roagna's traditional approach amplifies these qualities: long maceration, aging in large neutral oak, and minimal intervention allow the vineyard's personality to emerge with remarkable clarity and depth.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

AG 98
"The 2020 Barbaresco Pajè Vecchie Viti is s total stunner. A complex, dynamic wine, the Vecchie Viti impresses in all of its dimensions. Soaring aromatics are immediately captivating. Layered spice notes, new leather, menthol, dried herbs and incense play off a core of dark-hued Nebbiolo fruit. Not surprisingly, the 2020 has shut down fiercely after bottling. Readers should not plan on opening a bottle anytime soon." -Antonio Galloni

Wine Spectator

WS 96
"A well-structured red wine that displays a firework of flavours of cherries, strawberries, white pepper, eucalyptus and iron as well as a hint of tobacco. Intense and multi-layered, with a powerful acidity and a line of refined tannins on the lingering finish."

Kerin O'Keefe

WE 95
"Wild rose, new leather and crushed stone aromas mingle with ripe berry on the fragrant Roagna 2020 Barbaresco Pajè Vecchie Viti. Loaded with flavor and an earthy finesse, the savory palate delivers succulent layers of ripe Morello cherry, rhubarb, ground clove, truffle and almost salty mineral notes before a bitter orange note lifts the finish. It's balanced, with polished tannins and fresh acidity. Drink through 2035." -Kerin O'Keefe
