Auge is Vincey's most chiseled Mesnil bottling, a flat parcel of massal-selection Chardonnay planted in 1971 in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger Grand Cru, on only about 50 cm of brown clay over chalk. Marine Vincey notes the plot stays in fog late into the morning and is one of the last to be harvested - that combination of shallow topsoil and cool mesoclimate gives the wine its vertical, almost reductive precision. Biodynamic farming, ambient ferment, 12 months in barrel (20% new local oak), full malo, 36 months on the lees, brut nature with no added sulfur. The most linear, electric wine in the lineup, built more on cut and chalk than on flesh.
