Hudson Valley Chardonnay with surprising precision. Whitecliff is the Gardiner, New York estate founded by Michael Migliore and Yancey Stanforth-Migliore in 1999, now in the hands of the next generation with son Tristan as general manager. They have spent decades figuring out which vinifera grapes can really thrive on the schist and limestone of the Hudson River Valley, and Chardonnay is one of their proudest answers. The 2025 is fermented dry and built around the cooler climate of the region: bright orchard fruit, lemon-curd richness, a kiss of barrel and a stony, citrus-driven finish. If your usual Chardonnay touchstones are coastal California and white Burgundy, this is a fascinating East-Coast third way — leaner, more savory, and unmistakably New York.
